Wayne Tomas Awards

Wayne’s scholarship was initiated to honor a student who exemplifies a life of sound Christian principles, just as Wayne did. Wayne was the third child of George and Lauretta Tomas, born September 26, 1958 on Chicago’s Southwest Side in St. Bede’s Parish. From his early days, Wayne’s involvement in sports and church activities spotlighted his love of life and role as a young Christian. Wayne’s joyous life was ended on April 13, 1973 when a reckless driver hit his car on the way to school. Wayne had great accomplishments ahead of him but his life was cut way too short. He continues to be greatly missed by his family and friends. With this scholarship and award, we honor his Christian ways by acknowledging a student who demonstrates the same qualities.
